A good BER is achieved by considering three elements:

1. The building envelope and the level of insulation within that which includes the walls, floor, roof and the quality of the windows.

The easiest building element to upgrade first is the roof, ensure there is 300mm insulation in the attic and there is a grant available for this. External walls of the home can be insulated internally, externally or in the case of cavity wall construction the cavity can be filled.
